I never heard that, but 'Rosbif' (= roast beef) is sometimes 
used. I don't really know why. Perhaps because of the manner of 
cooking the meat in Britain ? Perhaps one 'lent for one 
returned' (1) in connection with 'froggies' as the Frenchies are 
named :)

(1) French idiom literally translated ("un prêté pour un rendu")
