Hi all,
As some might remember, last month I posted some information about a
website created by Ragtime enthusiast (and award winning cartoonist )
Chris Ware and a magazine he publishes "The Ragtime Ephemeralist"
http://home.earthlink.net/~ephemeralist/index.html
I bought a copy of Volume 3 - it arrived in the mail today and all I
can say is WOW! There are 256 pages of well written and documented
articles, sheet music, photos and real & antique advertisements for
recordings, ragtime performers and instruments. This is a very high
quality production and anybody who is interested in the Ragtime (or
early jazz) Era should get this book/magazine before it goes away.
(Volumes 1 and 2 are sold out!)
On a slightly different note, a Xmas gift I got was the book "The
Mischievous Art of Jim Flora" by Irwin Chusid (a very interesting DJ at
WFMU ) for those who remember the very interesting album covers from
Columbia and RCA Victor jazz artists in the 1940s and ‘50s. He did much
more than that and the book covers a lot.
