Re dangers of the Quarter, my late brother made his living as a jazz 
musician in N.O. for decades, working late hours regularly in the 
Quarter (Prima's 500, Famous Door, Sho-Bar, Crazy Shirley's, Palm 
Court), and he we never once was mugged. There are no guarantees of 
course but if you stick to the main streets after 2 a.m., and take cabs 
if you feel insecure, you can live in prudent caution without living in
