The Hot Club of Detroit Wins Heineken Jazz Fest Star Quest

Young Jazz Idols to Perform at 2004 Ford Detroit International Jazz Festival
On Saturday, September 4

Up and coming jazz stars The Hot Club of Detroit won the Third Annual Jazz 
Fest Star Quest at Keyboard Lounge on Monday, August 9. The group beat out 
20 other jazz acts over the four-week competition.

As the contest winners, The Hot Club of Detroit won a slot at the Ford 
Detroit International Jazz Festival and the $500 performance fee. The group 
will perform on Saturday, September 4 at 3:15 p.m. on the Mack Avenue 
Records/metrotimes Pyramid Stage.

The group members consist of Evan Perri of Grosse Pointe (lead guitar), Neil 
Mattson of East Lansing (rhythm guitar), Shannon Wade of Detroit (bass), 
Rafael Price of Detroit (violin) and Julien Labro of Marseille, France 
(accordion).

The Hot Club of Detroit performs traditional jazz from the 1920s, 30s and 
40s with a European Gypsy twist.

The Ford Detroit International Jazz Festival will take place September 4-6 
on Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit. The event features over 65 acts on four 
stages over three days. This year’s superstar headliners will be Detroit’s 
own grand diva Aretha Franklin, jazz legends The Ramsey Lewis Trio and 
entertainment giant Lou Rawls.
