I have a record of Ellington playing this little jingle, recorded May 29th
1938, so nobody is breaking new ground by trying it as a jazz piece.

The lp sleeve notes say " ........... heard here in a Chappie Wallace
arrangement , is another first for Ellington fans. Although the arrangement
was played frequently over a period of years, it was never recorded by the
band.Primarily section work, it offers short solo statements by Ellington,
Billy Taylor on bass, and Cootie Williams ."

The band at the time consisted or Wallace Jones, Rex Stewart, Cootie
Williamson tpt. "Tricky" Sam Nanton, Juan Tizol, Lawrence Brown tbn.
Barney Bigard, Johnny Hodges, Otto Hardwick, Harry Carney, reeds Duked pno
Fred Guy, gtr Hayes aand Billy Taylor bs and Sonny Greer dms.

I showed the record it is on to an avid Ellingtonia man and he had not heard
of it. Title of album is Duke Ellington - Cotton Club 1938 Vol 2 , on the
Jazz Archive label # JA-13

Cheers, Glen, "It don't mean a thing ** ** ***'* *** **** ***** "
