This is pretty hard to believe:

Sent by Don Jones of the American Rag to Allan Vache to several other
people, and ultimately to me...

"We just received a call (8/14/04, 4:30p.m.) from Ray Heitger telling us the
Brian Oglivie died
about 6 hours ago in Inverness, Scotland from complications brought on by
cirrhosis of the liver.
Duke Heitger was traveling with Brian and was at his side when he died. He
had been placed on life
support systems for approximately 24 hours until it was obvious that there
was no chance for his
survival."

What a great player of traditional jazz he was. The Riverwalk link to
reference him reads as follows:

"... an internationally renowned saxophonist and clarinetist of
extraordinary ability in the interpretation of early jazz forms and was a
1989 winner of the prestigious National Canada Council of the Arts Award.
Ogilvie has over twenty years experience with a wide variety of jazz
ensembles, from duos to big bands. He has played leading roles at numerous
distinguished international jazz festivals, including Edinburgh (Scotland)
and Brecon (Wales). Originally from Vancouver, Ogilvie spent many years in
Toronto involved in all kinds of jazz activities including big bands and
small groups, even leading a band of his own with his talented brothers...
Brian Ogilvie was the JCJB clarinetist/saxophonist from 1992-95 and appears
on all Riverwalk shows recorded during that time, as well as on several
CD's."

He had plenty of fans in Denver, to be sure. Summit Jazz featured him
often. He'll be greatly missed!
