And when the recording data exists in at least two places (hard drive +
whatever), I find that backing up my .wav files onto data CD to be
trustworthy as well.
Jim's point is very, very well-taken, though. I remember back in 92
when the Library of Congress was worried about transferring its holdings
into digital format because an unsubstantiated rumor had reached it that
the CDs wouldn't be playable in only a number of years. And since then,
the same unsubstantiated rumor continues to live a hale and hearty
existence!,
