Dear Steve,
My George Wein story is second-hand.
My close mate Nevill Sherburn owner/producer of the important and essential Australian Swaggie Records label (for which
I have done loads of research and written 100s of notes) was in New York some years ago.
He and his wife went to see Ella at a club.
After her set Ella rushed down to their table to say hello, thinking Nevill was George. 
Both are stocky and bald.
When it was sorted out, she stayed anyway and Nev and Maureen had a great night.
With photos to prove it.
