David Miner asked the list about a tune by the subject title. To my
knowledge, there are two tunes in the OKOM genre by this title . . one
composed by banjoist Johnny St. Cyr and Doc Cooke, the second by Jimmy Blythe
and Trixie Smith, both in the 1920s. These are sometimes referred to on the
stand as "Messin' Around in Eb" or "Messin' Around In C" to call the tune.
In addition to these two, Fats Waller also composed Messin' Around (With The
Blues).

There are 39 entries under the title in the copyright office of the
Library of Congress . . . mostly from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. It is also
a movie title. Many of these entries could be copyrighted different
*arrangements* of the *same* tune however. Interestingly, the two 1920s
compositions do not appear.

I suspect that from the construction of the quoted lyrics it will be
from the 60's or later rather than the 1920s.
