Bob Romans asked

Have you heard of this? Everybody I know is old and therefore their
equipment (ok, ok)
is going to be old, as well. Which means nobody is going to have the chance
to
hear my cds and know how fabulous I am.
Have you heard of this?

On some (a lot) of the cheaper earlier models this was the case; even when
they were brand new. It had to do with the strength and accuracy of the
laser beam that reads the disc. The computer generated CD-R did not
absorb/reflect the beam with enough strength and accuracy to play the CD.

A friend had a Yamaha CD player (very early model) and had to use his
portable boom box to play CD-Rs. When he bought a new CD player all his
troubles disappeared.

My NAD (circa 1987/8) has had no problems with any CDs (except the quality
of my 18 y.o. son's noise)
