Dan Spink's "clinker" explanation is very interesting, I 've always 
preferred Kenny Daverne's theory that someone heard a fire in a petshop and 
started trying to imitate the noises. (Actually, I can stand Bird, Dizzy, 
Clifford Brown, Monk etc., it's from Coltrane and Dolphy onward that the 
plot really eludes me....)

And I still would like to know how 'getting your ashes hauled' came to be a 
metaphor for sex!
