Listmates:
A bit of personal jazz connection with this date, Nov.7. Had he lived until today, Red Ingle would have been 97 years old today. Dad was born in Toledo, OH in 1906. He lived until just shy a couple months of 59 years in Santa Barbara, CA.
As a memver of the Detroit Goldkette stable of players, he worked with Bix, Tram, others of that great band (I have a photo of Bix and Dad taken in Cincinnati in 1927 on the Victor band's last tour before being pirated of key players by Whiteman.)
Recently i have been trying to burn off soe of his recordings besides the Capitol dates of the Natural Seven. I have some of the Spike Jones recordings, both the commercial sides and the V-discs and Command performance sides as well as some of the transcriptions. (Harlequin in England has put out some of these on both LP's and CD's).
I have many of the 1930's sides with Ted Weems, but am coming up short of some he made with this band. I am looking for a copy of T'Ain't So, Honey T'Ain'T So,"
Jig Time, and Juggling A Jig Saw. Copies of any of these would be very appreciated if anyone has these in their collection. A cassette would be fine.
I have a rare 10" LP made when I was with Freddy "Schnicklefritz" Fisher in Aspen. CO. Fred's son King, who moved to Australia years ago, was one cornet, I was on valve trombone, Fred on clar., Walt Smith on piano, Monty Montjoy, drums, and for the recording session, Red Ingle on Fred's battered bass sax. It was put out by Fisher for local sales in Aspen. I got a copy of it from Steve LaVere, Charley LaVere's son who deals in records. It had its moments.
(Anyone in OZ who knows and sees King please pass on my regards.)
Slowly I am finding other rarities to add to this collection which I hope to eventually burn off and donate to several jazz museums, Ohio and Toldeo historical societies, and a few living relatives, as well as my own daughter and two grandchildren. I have some film shorts and movies Red was in on Video tape, including a series of Snader Telescriptions on which I am on trumpet.
This is a personal project of a son who very much loved his father and was one of his greatest fans as well. A very funny man, he was also a great dad, and at times almost a brother. He taught me to fly fish early on, to trap and skeet shoot and hunt upland game, and to use my ears more than my mouth
when important words or music wwere to be heard.
I am not a spring chicken myself, so this project is one I hope to complete as much as possible while I have the time and energy.
I will greatly appreciate any copies of the above mentioned Weems sides, or others that I may have missed. Rust's directory lists a few others but I only have part A and it doesn't go to W section (a story there for a later time.)
Thanks up front for any help you may be able to provide.
Happy Birthday, Red. It was a great -- if all too short --road trip.
   Don Ingle
