Althouth you can get many different notation programs, I use Finale 2003.
(Not cheap). The Finale Company does have basic notation programs available, such
as Notepad. I have been told you can download a basic demo version from their

I also have Cakewalk and know Band In The Box is available.
Regarding input devices, for most basic stuff, I got and use Creative's (the
sound card company) Prodikeys. It's a combination computer keyboard and
musical keyboard. It's always there and available and doubles as a wrist rest. It's
$100 and no midi interface is needed. Website: www.creative.com
