I've always told dancers that they are there to dance to the drummer. The
rest of the band exists only to keep it from being boring.
When you stop to think about it, most forms of music are labels specific
styles due to the drums and percussion rhythms.
Ballad, swing, bossa nova, cha-cha, beguine, samba, polka, waltz, etc. etc.
are labels because of the rhythmic structure rather than the harmonic or
melodic structure of the music or instrumentation of the band.
