Hello all
When "homage" is used in a musical context, it usually signifies a lack of
ideas. This is probably not so in the case of Arturo Sandoval, who is a
fine trumpet player.
A reference to "evolution", in the context of jazz trumpet styles, is just
plain silly however. Descent with modification is fundamental to the
process of evolution and to see how inappropriate it is to Sandoval's list,
try drawing a tree diagram linking the players in the list. If you're
wondering about Timofei Dockshitser, he was principal trumpet at the
Bolshoi (Moscow) for many years.
A better word for Sandoval's CD might be "creationism" - this is the USA
after all :-)
All the best
Anton
