Steve,

For reasons that become quite apparent upon extensive listening, Clifford
Brown has that remarkable & rare ability to reach across stylistic boundries and
touch that nerve in many people: "That's GOOD music."

As someone whose former job forced him to constantly broadcast rrepetitious
jazz playlists, it was always a breath of fresh delight to sneak in a Clifford
Brown/Max Roach classic like "Jordu", "Parisian Thoroughfare", "Sandu", and
others (instead of playing the same cuts of Boby Hutcherson & Pat Metheny over &
over......ZZZZZZZZZZ).

Sacramento's Capital Jazz Project (a wonderful group) recently released "A
Portrait Of Clifford Brown" with guest trumpeter Bobby Shew....great disc! You
might want to check out their website at: www.capitaljazzproject.org.

He made musical sense, had a personality (with those desperately needed
ingredients: HUMOR & WIT) beautiful expressed in his playing, and was a
fundamentally superb musician.....

God, what a loss.

Best Wishes To All,
Nick Dragos, Still-An-Ex-Jazz-D.J., Sacramento, California
