I wish to extend my thanks and gratitude to "Sheik" David Littlefield and the "Federal Jazz Commission" lead by Marty Frankel.

I have been making short visits to the Washington DC area for several years, and upon the Sheik's recommendation, attempting to make the Col. Brooks scene with no success in scheduling.

That all changed last night. I found the Col. Brooks atmosphere perfect, the food fine, the audience attentive, and the music in a deep groove.

Thanks to Marty Frankel, I had the honor of sitting in with the band and found it most enjoyable with a rhythm section that truly locked and a band that played with sensitivity and dynamics. Fine players all. Good tempos. What a joy!

I highly recommend this Tuesday night event for anyone visiting the area. With their gig running into it's 22nd year, you know they've got to be doing something right!

Also, I finally got the chance to lay my hands on the Sheik's Dixieland Fake Books . . . and I have to say, they look great.
I can't wait to get them with a band and do some new (old) tunes.

Once again, thanks Sheiks for the recommendation and thanks Marty for the opportunity.

It was a gas!
