A few years ago I subbed occasionally with a band in Laughlin NV - three of
the guys were from New Orleans.  When they took vacation to go back home,
the TB player said the gigs like the Famous Door or similar joints in the
quarter, paid about $10 an hour.  He said he couldn't afford that so he
simply found a spot down on the levy, opened his trombone case and averaged
$100 an hour on good tourist days.

Searching for the levy in Salt Lake City, and I don't mean taxes....
