Throughout history there have always been Archetypes which show the way to
a new level of something or other. Archetypes are necessary in every facet
of life. They are like mentors to humanity who arrive on this planet to
chart a new course for segments of the population--in all countries.
Armstrong, Morton, Dodds, Teagarden, et al, were all jazz archetypes who
opened up new vistas for music the same way that Monet, Renoir,
Manet,Bonnard, et al, did for impressionist art. To try to compare them or
to figure out who did the most and who was more important is like trying to
compare the luminance of the stars. Who cares, because all the stars work
together to light up the sky. Thanks be to all of them.
