Hi ya'all,
For Those who may have misplaced this info, plus those who may have
missed this the first time around, or had another senior moment memory
loss; Here is a reminder of this coming Saturday's eventful happening
For The Love Of Mike, who passed away last month on June 6th.
+++++++++++++++++++
The fun time celebrative wake for Mike will be held Saturday, July 19th,
starting at 6pm, at the Monrovia / Arcadia Holiday Inn. 924 W.
Huntington Drive, Monrovia, Ca. (Monrovia / Arcadia)
Phone # is (626) 357-1900.
Take the Huntington Drive exit on the 210 Freeway, and go SOUTH,
away from the mountains. It is visible from the 210 freeway, driving
east, on the right (south) side.
Mikes wife, Bobbie, tried to schedule it on a
reasonably festival free weekend, so that more musicians, friends, and
fans can attend. There will be a deli buffet and an open bar. This is
meant to be in the "Rent Party" tradition with a "Wake" bucket at the
door for donation's to cover expenses etc.
There has already been an anonymous gift of a scholarship
to jazz camp for a young person In Mikes name. Mike has given his time,
and at least one of his horns to music students, in the past. Not many
have been aware of that. But he certainly deserves to be credited with
it.
This is meant to be a happy and up occasion with lots
of jazz. This was Mikes request, rather than having a memorial service.
Those of you who are friends of Mike, also musicians and / fans, are all
welcome. Just leave your sadness at the door, and have a GREAT time.
"Eh' La Bas."
The event also promises to have many former Hot
Frogs attending, including me, along with many that have played with
Mike through the years. Chet Jaeger has said that the Nightblooming
Jazzmen will be there. This has all the makings of being a "one of a
kind" event, with a full house, that will be remembered for a long time.
This is all about having a "happy happening". So mark it
in your date book, if you happen to be in the L.A. area, and pass the
word along to others. Bobbie and family will much appreciate it. I think
that all attending will cherish this one.
And thanks, again, to all who have responded with E mails
and phone calls. The response has been large and supportivly comforting
to the family.
One more time, here are the details;
Saturday, July 19th, starting at 6pm, The Monrovia Holiday Holiday Inn.
924 W. Huntington Drive. Monrovia Ca. Phone # is;;(626) 357-1900.. It is
the Huntington Drive exit, just SOUTH of the 210 Freeway, and can be
seen from the freeway, driving east. Not sure about west. ( It's a tall
Holiday Inn, more than likely visible in both directions.)
Come, participate, partake, and enjoy.
"For The Love Of Mike", respectfully and humbly yours,
Paul Reid
