[Dixielandjazz] Max Collie and Sam Johnson -- quo vadis?

I was among those who were stiffed by Max Collie's manager, Sam Johnson, who
was said to be a nephew of Lyndon Johnson.  It was a long list that included
almost everybody associated with traditional jazz.

Is there anyone out there who has some hard facts?  Has Max (who won the
so-called "championship') ever been back in this country?  Was Sam Johnson
(who reportedly went into hiding in Mexico) ever seen again?  Did Bill Bacin
do any real damage?
