Born in Minden, Louisiana, on December 25, 1939. Took piano lessons
for one year when 8 years old and told by my step mother, that I didn't
have any talent and should quit. Picked up trombone as a freshman in
high school, played in beginning band, one semester then moved to
advance band the next. Graduated from high school, joined the US Navy,
graduated from the school of music, played in several navy bands for 3
years, 10 months, 11 days, but who counted. While in high school I
began to play jazz and continued through the navy. In 1961, I got out
of the navy went back to school, ultimately graduating from Fresno
State in Social Science, with a minor in music. Later, got a Masters
degree in History and taught high school history for 25 years and the
last 10 years directed the orchestra. Musically, I have played
numerous casuals, everything from circus bands to ice shows. have
played in the Bakersfield Symphony for well over 30 years and am
co-leader of the Southside Chicago Seven. We have 2 CDs, "I Never
Knew" featuring Gene Bolen, and "Tank Town Bump." If anyone is
interested in getting either just contact me. Currently, I am a
retired teacher, but do at least 150 dates per year, this year, I have
played the shows "Gypsy," and "Evita," in addition to work with the
Symphony, jazz with Southside, and wind ensemble work with the
Bakersfield Municipal Band. Future, begin work on our third CD,
continue to play and get more festival work.
