Well, he wasn't really talking about black and tan mixed race clubs. He
was describing segregated Whorehouses for which the street was famous.
Customers were either all white or all black. The girls? Virtually all,
"of colour", with octoroons and/or creoles being highly regarded by the
johns of all persuasions.
So I've heard, that is ;-)
