I agree with your concern but disagree a little with your solution.  I 
don't see why there has to be 11 lines of clutter between the subject and 
the message and a 3 line footer as well, but the thread should be partially 
maintained with the message, although it certainly wouldn't hurt to have a 
log of judicious snipping.

Without leaving some part of the thread intact, you can't even tell who I'm 
replying to, can you Vern?

I think I'm getting in the order of 30 to 40 Dixieland jazz emails a day, 
plus mail from other lists and other sources.   They don't arrive in order, 
because people don't keep their dates and times current on their computers, 
and usually the messages show times at the place of origin, not at my 
place.  Trying to find the message the current email is responding to is 
simply difficult.
