Ambassador Satch - The Story of Louis Armstrong - is coming to the
Prince Music Theater, Broad and Chestnut Streets, Philadelphia, PA USA
from February 26 through March 9, 2003.
This show, highlighting Louis Armstrong's life, in sort of a one man
format, stars Andre De Shields (The Wiz, Full Monte, Ain't Misbehavin')
and is worth a trip to see it on that basis alone.
But there is more. The shows also has a "Hot Five" style jazz band
playing famous Armstrong hits throughout. Everything from "West End
Blues" to "Mack The Knife" and "Hello Dolly".
The trumpet lead in that show band, Paul Grant, is familiar to many of
you as Barbone Street's first call trumpet player. You've seen or will
see him with us at Iron Hill, Sydney's, Longwood Gardens, West Chester
University Jazz Fest, Rehoboth Jazz Fest, Clifford Brown Jazz Fest,
Berk's Jazz Fest, etc., etc.
Wait till you hear him do the "West End Blues" opening cadenza.
Other band members, who have appeared with the show previously in London
and New York City, include Terry Waldo on piano, and Dan Levinson on
clarinet.
If you are a Louis Armstrong Fan, you'll want to see this show. Ticket
