According to my cajun grandma the Yama Yama Man is a sort of southern
version of the boogieman that lives under the stairs. Some times he is
described as a man made of burlap sacks filled with worms and bugs.
(See the boogieman from "Nightmare before Christmas" to get that idea -
a picture at http://www.funtocollect.com/jusarnigbefc.html . )
"The Yama Yama Man"
Written by Karl Hoschna (1908)
Lyrics by Collin Davis for a Broadway musical review "The Three Twins"
Sung and danced by Ginger Rogers in the film The Story Of Vernon And
Irene Castle
(goes on about long boney hands and such but I cannot seem to find the
lyrics on the internet even though it is Public Domain.)
There is a version of the song with lyrics along those lines that Turk
Murphy did - Jimmy Stanislaw (sp?) sang the vocals.
