It was the Paddock in 1954-55 period. Had sign on the door about his being
there and a street shill who talked people into the place as you passed by.
Most of the clubs were doing that.
Freddie Kohlman had a fine little band just a block of so away at Sid
DaVilla's Mardi Gras Lounge. I later worked with Freddie in the house band
at Chicago's Jazz Ltd. Still Jim Crow crap in N.O. at that time. Band played
up back of bar, but couldn't come down and sit at the bar. Sid let us go
into the back to buy the guys a drink and have one with them out of  public
sight. A load of crap!
