Being fairly new to the list -- I don't know if you've already discussed
this thread -- but would it be possible to ask what "Solid, Gates," means?
Or where the slang came from? When listening to old Betty Hutton novely
songs ("Murder, He Said" and others) or early Bing Crosby OKOM jazz tunes --
you'll hear both of them use a lot of "jazzy" slang and I'm really curious
as to what it means...or where it came from...
For instance, when listening to an old Mae West tune -- she used the
phrase "in like Flynn" and I read somewhere that that referred to Errol
Flynn working his charm and bedding the girls. Does anyone know if this is
true?
thanks,
