[Dixielandjazz] What does "Solid, Gates" mean, anyway?

Being fairly new to the list -- I don't know if you've already discussed =
this thread -- but would it be possible to ask what "Solid, Gates," =
means? Or where the slang came from? When listening to old Betty Hutton =
novely songs ("Murder, He Said" and others) or early Bing Crosby OKOM =
jazz tunes -- you'll hear both of them use a lot of "jazzy" slang and =
I'm really curious as to what it means...or where it came from...
For instance, when listening to an old Mae West tune -- she used the =
phrase "in like Flynn" and I read somewhere that that referred to Errol =
Flynn working his charm and bedding the girls. Does anyone know if this =
