Hi Listmates.....
      I just returned from Pensacola...played with Don Gumpert's dixieland
group (without Don) Sunday at the Seville Quarter.
     Don was operated on on Thursday to have a cancerous kidney removed.
I'm pleased to report the operation went smoothly.  Don went directly from
the recovery room to his hospital room, and was able to bypass ICU.
      He was sitting up the next day and with a little assistance, he was
walking around the halls on Sunday.  When I visited him, he was still under
the influence of painkillers, and not terribly coherent; but I hear that
problem has passed now. It'll be a few weeks or more before he can play
again, but we're all looking forward to his return to the bandstand.
