My girlfriend's cat will spring at the dog.
My girlfriend's cat is springing at the dog.
My girlfriend's cat springs at the dog.
My girlfriend's cat sprang at the dog.
My girlfriend's cat did spring at the dog.

I will spring for the veterinarian's bill, damn it.
I am springing for the vet bill.
I did spring for the vet bill, sigh.
I HAD a lot of money before I SPRUNG for the vet bill.
I sprung for the vet bill, so get outta my face!

I will shoot the dog.
I am shooting the dog.
I did shoot the thing.
Yeah, I shot him.

Sprang and sprung represent two verbs, I think, one of which is pure slang.

And of course, my mattress can be sprung, but it can't be sprang.
