I'm with you and Kaye Wade in applauding girl singers, especially Jo
Stafford, Peggy Lee, June Christy, Julie London, Ella, and yes, Doris
Day.

I despise, however, girl singers who shriek, scream, do criminal
violence to beautiful melodies and haven't the faintest understanding of
pianissimo.

Cleo Laine? Never heard of her. She's not on any of the 78s in my
collection.
