There were several viruses that hit the scene all at once this past week,
but you are making way too big a deal out of it if you are too freaked out
to open *any* e-mail whatsoever. The e-mails can't hurt you, it's the
attachments that hurt you. Open the e-mail, just don't open the attachment.
If you get an e-mail with an attachment just delete it; 19 viruses is not
too much for your delete key to handle, trust me.

E-mail viruses use fake return addresses, so just because an e-mail appears
to have come from someone on the list, it likely did not.

One thing all Windows users should do (that most don't) is run Windows
Update once in a while to patch security holes. Start Internet Explorer (the
thing you use to view websites) then click the Tools menu and choose Windows
Update.

Never open any e-mail attachments unless you're confident you know what
you're doing, and never pay any attention to e-mail that looks like it came
from eBay or Amazon.com or anywhere else that asks you to click on a link to
go to a Web page to update your credit card or password information,
regardless of how official looking it appears to be. If you think you may
actually need to update your credit card information on eBay, start your Web
browser (another name for the thing you use to view websites), enter
www.ebay.com in the address bar, and follow the instructions to update your
credit card information; do not directly click links you find in an e-mail.
