The Tom Lord Discography lists a version of St Louis Blues by Prince's Band / 
Orchestra (sic) recorded New York c. January, 1916 and issued on Columbia.
The Ciro band version is mentioned as recorded in London, September 1917. 
Handy wrote the tune in 1914 so possibly there are even earlier examples although 
whether or not they qualify as jazz largely resides in the ears of the 
listener.
