Hope some of you DJML members will take a gander at the current Black Swan
schedule we recently sent out to our email list,...and join us at a few
events if you can.

Eggggselent, Smithers! Music from my generation. Let's don our raccoon coat,
crank up the old jalopy and cut a rug with that fine Black Swan band.

Upcoming performances are listed below. We hope you too will kick up your
heels with Black Swan at these events.  Most venues are appropriate for
listeners and dancers of all ages, gender and IQ. Won't you support live
jazz and join us at these upcoming events? And by the way, schedule
information is available whenever you need it at www.bscjb.com or by

2003 Public Events:

April 30: Old Church Concert (RAGTIME REVELRY) from 7 to 9:30pm. The first
of three concerts being recorded at the Old Church at SW 11th and Clay in
downtown Portland. This event will feature Ragtime Music from the 1890s
through the present day. Call Amy at 503-292-7673 for ticket reservations or
pay at the door - Adults $8; Students $5. Remember that the streetcar stops
right outside the door.

May 17: Rolling Hills United Methodist Church in the southern Los Angeles
area from 7:30 to 10pm. Call Leonard Guiton at 310-377-6771 for tickets to
this fundraiser for an October jazz festival.

May 18: Norris Pavilion concert from 2 to 5 pm in Palos Verdes, California.
Call Martin Rosenzweig at 310-544-0403 for the line on tickets.

May 23-26: Sacramento Jazz Jubilee in Sacramento, California. Call the
festival office at 916-372-5277 for ticket and hotel information. Book 'em
early on this one!

May 28: Heritage Dixieland Dance Series* from 6 to 9pm.

May 30-June 1: Spokane Dixieland Festival in Spokane, Washington. Call Dean
Martin at 509-235-4401 to get in the cue.

July 4-6: America's Dixieland Festival in Olympia, Washington. Choose to
celebrate Independence Day with us in the Washington State Capitol. Call
Charlotte Dickison at 360-943-9123 to begin the fireworks.

July 11: Sweet Oregon Grill off Cornelius Pass Road in Portland, Oregon.
Don't you just love a place where you get great food AND live music!?!

July 14: Monteith Park River Concert Series from 7 to 9pm in Albany, Oregon
(NOTE: Corrected date). Bring a picnic and some good company for a free
outdoor concert sponsored by KGAL Radio and the Music Performance Trust
Fund.

July 30: Heritage Dixieland Dance Series* from 6 to 9pm.

August 20: Old Church Concert Series from 7 to 9:30pm. The second of three
concerts being recorded at the Old Church this year. This event will feature
the early songs of Hoagy Carmichael. Call Amy at 503-292-7673 for advance
tickets or pay at the door - Adults $8; Students $5.

August 29-31: Hot & Cool Festival in Portland, Oregon.  Call Charlie Clark
at 888-795-7775 for more information.

September 20-27: Blithe Experience Cruise of the Inside Passage from Seattle
to Alaska. Call Bill at 800-528-1460 for advance reservations.

October 1: Heritage Dixieland Dance Series* from 6 to 9pm.

October 10-12: Medford Jazz Jubilee in Medford, Oregon.

October 22: Old Church Concert Series from 7 to 9:30pm. The final of three
concerts being recorded at the Old Church this year.  Dixieland Gospel music
is the order of the evening.  Call Amy at 503-292-7673 for advance tickets
or pay at the door - Adults $8; Students $5.

October 24-26: Lake of the Ozarks Jazz Festival in Lake Ozark, Missouri.

November 7-9: Diggin' Dixie at the Beach in Ocean Shores, Washington.

November 19: Heritage Dixieland Dance Series* from 6 to 9pm.

December 28: Portland Dixieland Society at the Milwaukie ELKS Lodge on
McGloughlin Boulevard from 1 to 5pm.

Black Swan includes: Marilyn Keller, vocals; Ernie Carbajal, trumpet; Lew
Chapman, superbone; Steve Matthes, clarinet; Ron Leach, drums; Alan
Phillips, banjo/vocals; John Bennett, piano; & Kit Johnson, tuba.

*  The Heritage Dixieland Dance performances are upstairs at the BridgePort
Brewing Company located at 1313 NW Marshall in Portland, Oregon.  There is
no cover charge this year, but attendees are encouraged to make a donation
to help offset the cost of the event. Pizza and drinks are available and
children are welcome.  Call Amy at 503-292-7673 for additional details. This
year we have changed the time to 6 to 9pm and will produce six events: 2/26,
3/26, 5/28, 7/30, 10/1 and 11/19.
