[Dixielandjazz] "Im Comin' Virginia" chords, etc.

I believe the original key for this is Eb. At least that's what Condon and
Teagarden used. Everybody has their own idea on chords on this one because
there are so many "passing" chords that go to make this one of the most
beautiful of jazz tunes. The Condon version from the 50's is the best I've
ever heard and the most beautiful. Sorry, I don't know what album it was on.

Hi Dave: "I'm Coming, Virginia" is sometimes ascribed to Hoagy Carmichael,
although there is some doubt about it. It was recorded by Bing Crosby (with
Paul Whiteman) prior to 1927 and there are other recordings around that time
by Django Reinhardt and, of course, Bix Beiderbecke.

There are some sample transcriptions @
http://www.letrs.indiana.edu/cgi-bin/hoagy-idx.pl?type=itemlist&idno=ATM-MC2
-1-3&size=First+30 (Indiana University Archives).

Most commonly the chords are:

Verse:
 Fm / Fm7 / Db7 / C7 / Fm /// Fm ///
 C / Cm / D7 / G7 / Cm /// Cm Db7 C7 /
 Fm / Fm7 / Db7 / C7 / Fm /// Fm ///
 C / Cm / D7 / G7 /Cm /// ( C7 break )

 Chorus:
 F F7 F° Bbm6 F /// D7 / G7 / C7 / F7 /
 Bb /// G7 / C7 / F / Bb / F / C7+5 /
 F F7 F° Bbm6 F / Dm / Am / E7 / Am ///
 Bm7b5 / E7 / Am7b5 / D7 / Gm7b5 / C7 / F / F7 /
 Bb /// Bbm /// G7 /// C7 ///
 Gm7/// Gm7 / C7 / F / Bb / F ///

Enjoy, Bryan
