to Bill Biffle: a big item I forgot:

Important to get the baseball management associating you as a real asset
to the team so they'll keep you on year after year.

Uniforms help do this. Your guys will all have access to white pants--
jeans, white ducks, whatever--and white gym shoes. To make yourselves
perceived as a part of the team (not just a hired band for the day) get
management to supply you with team shirts and caps, and with jackets in
cooler weather. (At Wrigley we needed arctic gear for the openers and for
some of the later games, too!) The way you look is very important because
the musical content will always be minimal in such circumstances: you are
primarily entertainers and your job is to enhance the "good time Charlie"
atmosphere of a ball game. If you can get yourselves associated with the
team in the minds of fans and management, you've got yourselves a permanent
gig. And one helluva lot of fun!

Charlie
