List Mates:
I'm driving to Annapolis for Mac McClaeb's funeral today.
He was Barbone Street's first call trumpet/cornet player.
He wasn't famous, yet he was one of the hottest jazz trumpeters on the
East Coast.
He was the youngest member of the band at 60.
He was a retired 30 year Navy Musician, Master Chief Petty Officer.
He was well loved by many jazz musicians, from Washington DC to
Philadelphia PA.
He never said a bad word about anybody.
He drove 200 miles round trip to make Barbone Street Gigs, even the club
dates.
He always came to play.
He was a real stand-up guy who played his last gig with us in June.
He said then, "I would have paid you to play all these gigs."
We loved him and will miss him.
Bummer.
