Good to hear someone recalling Jacquet. Another swinging tenor in that same
band was Gene Morris, who settled in Sacramento and played local clubs for
many years... a huge influence on many of us budding swingers. He held
forth at the Zanzibar lounge, now just a memory, and we all (some of us
under the legal age) waited for Flying Home in which Gene took umpteen wild
choruses, marching around the club and up onto the bar. A great sax man as
well as a showman.

In his later years he worked for the public school system as a security
guard and died in poor health, with little recognition of his moments of
fame.
