I think we can sum up the feelings of the musicians on the list by
reciting a couplet from an old Kris Kristofferson song:
I'll just keep on playing ' till the day I die,
As long as I can get it up for one more try.
Tommy Loy will be remembered by those of us on the List for being a
real gentleman, a fine musician, and a wonderful entertainer. Most of
America will remember him as the trumpeter in the coat and tie who on Sunday
afternoons in the glory days of the Clint Murchison, Tex Schram, and Tom
Landry Dallas Cowboys, stood in the center of the field in Texas Stadium,
and played our National Anthem perfectly, note for note, solo, with a
nationwide audience looking on TV. As I recall his introduction by the
stadium announcer was simply "And now ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Tommy Loy
and our National Anthem".
