[Dixielandjazz] Chord Averaging

Love it. Every once in a while I have the misfortune to work as a
sideman where the chord instrument in one of those "averaging" players.
Certainly makes the music interesting, especially in a tune like
"Changes". As a horn player, you focus your mind on the melody and the
bass line. If the bass player is also an "averager" you are in big
trouble.

I used to think those Rock & Roll guys didn't mind it a bit until a jazz
fan of ours brought his guitar playing son to hear us play. "Wow", said
the kid. "How great it is to hear a band like yours that actually makes
the changes in a song."
