Hey, Rob,
I can't help you re the French tune, but if you want to add something 
really neat to your vocal, see if you can find a jazz violin to play around 
you as Ray Nance did with Ozzie Bailey.

The recording I'm thinking of was made October 1, 1957.

You can hear it on the CDs  This is Jazz 36 Duke Ellington Plays Standards 
(Columbia Legacy CK65056) and Duke Ellington and His Great Vocalists 
(Columbia Legacy CK66732).

I'm not sure it's "jazz;: if it is, it is very "sweet" jazz.  Nevertheless 
I really like this version of the song.
