Hi Jim,

To quote from John Chilton's ' Who's Who in British Jazz',

"Born 1943.Piano from the age of 7, gigged with a local group the Dominoes
from 1957. Did season at Butlin's, Pwlheli, Wales with Rory Blackwell. To
London with Blackwell in early 1959. Signed with agent Larry Parnes, played
various gigs then became accompanist o Billy Fury (1960-61). Formed own Blues
Flames (July 1962) began specializing in Hammond Organ in December 1962.
Played residency at the Flamingo Club in London. Hit records from mid-1960s.
Temporarily disbanded the Blue Flames in 1966 to work with Harry South's Big
Band. Played solo cabaret dates 1967/8 and was also featured with Count
Basie's band(1967 and 1968) Led own band again then worked in duo with
singer-keyboard player Alan Price (1971-3) Featured with own band throughout
1980s and 1990s touring Britain and the continent."

I believe that he is currently working with two groups. Firstly 'Three Line
Whip' which is a trio of himself on vocals and organ, son Tristram on guitar
and son James on drums. The second is a reconstituted 'Blue Flames' which is
around a six to eight piece depending on venue requirements using a number of
the top younger modern, (but not too way out!) British jazzers. Music style
is as you say 'jazzy blues' with r'n'b influences plus influences from the
likes of Basie, Mose Allison etc.

Hope this helps to explain.

Cheers,

Jerry,
