This is only a marketing trick.

Once you've popped for the player and collected a few of these discs,
they'll change the format to be smaller and faster but have only ONE song on
each side. They'll claim that this is so you can buy just the songs you
really want and not have to pay for the ones you didn't want. They'll
probably have an oversized hole in the middle, so of course you'll need to
buy a special player. But the manufacturers will soon come up with players
that can handle both types, maybe even a whole stack of them...
