Dear Randy,
Regarding the former Camarillo State Hospital in California.
My understanding is that it was an asylum (an institution for the mentally ill,
the blind, orphans, and the like).  
Surely, to call it a jail (a building for the confinement of criminals) is an
exaggeration.
Also to say "Whats too bad about this discussion is that Bird, along with many
jazz musicians, was convicted of what some people call victimless crimes...." is
not quite true either.
He was not convicted of anything. Which is what Steve Barbone was trying to
establish.
Parker even wrote "Relaxin' at Camarillo", which I doubt he would have admitted
to if it was San Quentin, Alcatraz (or similar).
But what would I know?
I live in Australia.
And I am certainly not a revisionist.
