He was confined to hospital care for a drug/alcohol-related breakdown in 1946.
Also had his NY cabaret licence revoked by the drug squad in 1951 (for several
years).
But no jail (gaol), to my knowledge.
Lester Young was court marshalled for drugs and spent time in military detention
in 1945.
Maybe someone has confused the stories.
It is always wise to squash rumours before they catch on.
Well done in raising it.
