The tunes Jim mentions, "I want to linger," and "When the war breaks out in
Mexico," were arranged by Rosie McHargue, and it was Rosie on clarinet. Not
sure who the tuba man was though Joe "Country Washburne did record with Pete
several times. Pete had Skippy Anderson on Piano and Sleepy Kaplan at times
on Drums.
I used to drive from No. Hollywood over Laural Canyon to Santa Monica Blvd.
to the Canyon Room where Pete was playing just to catch them -- hoping it
was a good night. Pete was fond of the suace as many of his players were.
One night was not a good night as far as sobriety. Skippy was in the middle
of a chorus when his eyes glazed over, his head fell down to hit the
keyboard and he was passed out., The band played on -- but not as well as
they usually did. Well, there were times when Pete's band was hot, hot, hot,
but there were other times best forgotten. The recordings show them off at
the better ability.
