Hello all

The response to this thread has been surprising - it shows how valuable a
resource the DJML is.

It seems clear that there are two compositions under consideration - the
1920s (jazz/hot dance) Deep Elm and the 1930s (country blues) Deep Elem Blues.

John Birchall's info is very interesting indeed - it shows that Deep Elem
Blues was copyrighted well after the piece was in general use. I have it
(on CD re-issue) recorded by the Blue Ridge Ramblers (aka the Prairie
Ramblers) on 15 August 1935. The title has no composer credit and the notes
say that piece was a favourite of the Shelton Brothers in the early 30s.

All the best
Anton
