Our esteemed listmeister Bob Ringwald said :

" Energy has nothing to do with a band being good or
bad. The band may look better visually to the audience if they display a
lot of energy but, energy does not necessarily make musicianship or talent."

Amen to that Bob - energy, beads, a jokey stage presence etc. does nothing
to elevate the quality of the music itself. Know-nothing, OKOM-ignorant
crowds are not qualified to judge that aspect therefore their applause
should not necessarily be taken as an acknowledgement of superb
musicianship - play the same stuff in front of experienced musos then you
will get an informed response.

Any hokum performed on stage which does not directly relate to the
production of first-class music is the funny hats thing all over again but
in another guise. It might get gigs, however those who indulge in it should
not delude themselves that the audiences' adulatory reaction to such
tomfoolery is sparked by the band's musical virtuosity.
