Cheers,
"barbecue, n. [one of a number of food metaphors for a woman--also,
according to jazzmen, the term often has a hidden reference to female
genitalia]". Robert S. Gold. "Jazz Talk".

'"barbecue n. 1. A sexually attractive young woman...See...Sex and
Food". A few examples of the many words in this entry are, "cherry,
cookie, honey, jelly-roll (which certainly has a sexual connotation --
'I Ain't Gonna Give Nobody None O' This Jelly-Roll' -- and, of course
'Jelly' himself), and tart". Harold Wentworth and Stuart Berg Flexner,
"Dictionary of American Slang".

Eric Townley's book is regarded as a reliable source and ,in this
instance, seems to be correct -- and what is the Navy band instrument
story? Thanks and regards.
Fred
